About Once Upon a Table

Once Upon A Table, Inc. is a registered South Carolina nonprofit corporation. We provide tableware rentals to weddings and events all over the southeast.

Our unique name comes from our mission to tell the stories of the underserved and marginalized in our community, and secondarily to tell the stories of our thrifted inventory. The “table“ part is both literal and symbolic. Literally we use tableware to put food on someone else's table.

Tables aren’t just for meals… they’re for moments. The “table” is symbolic of connection and community.

  • Folks gather around tables to have meetings, discuss ideas, and have tough conversations.

  • Folks gather around tables to eat, remember, and laugh.

  • Folks gather around tables to dissect problems, share information, and make plans.

  • Folks gather around tables to tell stories, dream, and make toasts.

Once Upon A Table, Inc. builds community, redistributes resources, and challenges systems of oppression by transforming celebration into solidarity. We provide sustainable, ethically sourced, affordable décor and tableware rentals that reduce waste and make beauty accessible to all, then reinvest every net dollar into local mutual aid programs that meet everyday needs with dignity, creativity, and care.

Our vision is a community where celebration and compassion go hand in hand; where a shared table extends beyond an event and into the lives of community members who need support.

Core Values:

Sustainability:

  • Teaching and promoting skills that empower and teach self-sufficiency

  • Extending the life of vintage and secondhand items through thoughtful reuse and upcycling

Accessibility: ensuring that basic needs (food, housing, transportation, and healthcare), beauty, celebration, and joy are not limited by income

Dignity: meeting needs (food, housing, transportation, and healthcare) in ways that respect and uplift

Storytelling: every plate, project, and - most importantly - person carries a story worth sharing, and with help, their stories can be changed for the better

Inclusivity: Once Upon A Table, Inc. does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, creed, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, national origin, disability, or marital status in any of its activities or operations.
